El templo de Amenhotep III es uno de los asombrosos templos ubicados en la orilla oeste del r\u00edo Nilo, en la Necr\u00f3polis de Tebas. Amenhotep III, fara\u00f3n de la dinast\u00eda XVIII, construy\u00f3 este templo durante su gobierno alrededor del 1400 a. C., donde fue adorado como un dios.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

En su d\u00eda, este complejo de templos era el m\u00e1s grande de Egipto. El templo abarcaba un total de 35 hect\u00e1reas. Todos los templos que se construyeron despu\u00e9s de \u00e9ste no pudieron alcanzar los mismos tama\u00f1os; incluso el Templo de Karnak, tal como se mantuvo durante el reinado de Amenhotep, era m\u00e1s peque\u00f1o.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Desafortunadamente, este enorme templo fue destruido dram\u00e1ticamente por varias razones. Poco despu\u00e9s de su construcci\u00f3n, fue destruido por un terremoto alrededor del a\u00f1o 1200 aC, que dej\u00f3 solo a los 2 enormes colosos en la entrada que a\u00fan estaban en pie. Estos fueron destruidos a\u00fan m\u00e1s por un terremoto en el 27 aC, despu\u00e9s de lo cual fueron reconstruidas en parte por las autoridades romanas.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Los estudios cient\u00edficos mostraron que el complejo consist\u00eda en tres pilones, cada uno de ellos encabezado por estatuas colosales. En el extremo m\u00e1s alejado de este templo rectangular hab\u00eda un patio de peristilo rodeado de columnas. Hoy en d\u00eda, hay cuatro de las estatuas que han sido re-erigidas, con 8 en espera de ser re-erigidas. El Museo de Luxor alberga unas 200 estatuas que se encontraron en este templo.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Estas estatuas gemelas representan Amenhotep III en una posici\u00f3n sentada. Dos figuras m\u00e1s cortas est\u00e1n talladas en el trono delantero junto a sus piernas para su esposa Tiye y su madre Mutemwiya. Los paneles laterales representan al dios del Nilo Hapy.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Las estatuas est\u00e1n hechas de bloques de arenisca de cuarcita que se extrajo en el-Gabal el-Ahmar y se transportaron 675 km por tierra hasta Luxor. Despu\u00e9s del terremoto 27, los ingenieros romanos reconstruyeron el coloso del norte. Se cree que usaron bloques que pueden haber venido de Edfu. Los colosos alcanzan una altura de 18 m y pesan aproximadamente 720 toneladas cada uno. En el caso, vamos a incluir las plataformas de piedra sobre las que se encuentran.
