Le temple d’Amenhotep III est l’un des \u00e9tonnants temples situ\u00e9s sur la rive ouest du Nil, dans la n\u00e9cropole th\u00e9baine. Am\u00e9nophis III, pharaon de la dynastie XVIII, construisit ce temple sous son r\u00e8gne vers 1400 av. J.-C., o\u00f9 il fut v\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un dieu.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 son \u00e9poque, ce complexe de temples \u00e9tait le plus grand d’\u00c9gypte. Le temple couvrait un total de 35 hectares. Tous les temples qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 construits apr\u00e8s celui-ci ne pourraient pas atteindre les m\u00eames dimensions; m\u00eame le temple de Karnak, tel qu\u2019il se trouvait pendant le r\u00e8gne d\u2019Amenhotep, \u00e9tait plus petit.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Malheureusement, cet immense temple a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9truit pour plusieurs raisons. Peu de temps apr\u00e8s sa construction, il fut d\u00e9truit par un tremblement de terre autour de 1200 avant JC, qui ne laissa encore que les 2 \u00e9normes colosses \u00e0 l’entr\u00e9e. Celles-ci ont ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9truites par un tremblement de terre en 27 av. J.-C. Apr\u00e8s quoi, elles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 partiellement reconstruites par les autorit\u00e9s romaines.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Les \u00e9tudes scientifiques ont montr\u00e9 que le complexe \u00e9tait compos\u00e9 de trois pyl\u00f4nes, chacun surmont\u00e9 de statues colossales. Au fond de ce temple rectangulaire, il y avait une cour de p\u00e9ristyle entour\u00e9e de colonnes. De nos jours, il y a quatre statues qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9-\u00e9rig\u00e9es, et huit attendent d\u2019\u00eatre r\u00e9-\u00e9rig\u00e9es. Le mus\u00e9e de Louxor abrite quelque 200 statues d\u00e9couvertes dans ce temple.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Am\u00e9nophis III est assis dans ces statues jumelles. Deux personnages plus courts sont grav\u00e9s sur le tr\u00f4ne devant ses jambes pour son \u00e9pouse Tiye et sa m\u00e8re Mutemwiya. Les panneaux lat\u00e9raux repr\u00e9sentent le dieu du Nil Hapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les statues sont fabriqu\u00e9es \u00e0 partir de blocs de gr\u00e8s de quartzite extraits d’une carri\u00e8re \u00e0 el-Gabal el-Ahmar et transport\u00e9s \u00e0 Louxor par la route sur une distance de 675 km. Apr\u00e8s le 27e s\u00e9isme, les ing\u00e9nieurs romains ont reconstruit le colosse nord. On pense qu’ils ont utilis\u00e9 des blocs pouvant provenir d’Edfou. Les colosses atteignent une hauteur imposante de 18 m et p\u00e8sent environ 720 tonnes chacun. Au cas o\u00f9, nous allons inclure les plates-formes de pierre sur lesquelles ils se trouvent. Si elles sont s\u00e9par\u00e9es, les plates-formes ont une hauteur d’environ 4 m et les deux silhouettes mesurent environ 15 m.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

La statue du sud comprend toujours un seul morceau de pierre; alors qu’en 27 av. J.-C., un important tremblement de terre a d\u00e9truit le colosse du nord, l’a effondr\u00e9 du haut de la taille et a fissur\u00e9 la moiti\u00e9 inf\u00e9rieure.
