Il tempio di Amenhotep III \u00e8 uno dei meravigliosi templi situati nella riva occidentale del fiume Nilo, nella Necropoli di Tebe. Amenhotep III, faraone della XVIII Dinastia, costru\u00ec questo tempio durante il suo regno intorno al 1400 a.C., dove fu adorato come un dio.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Ai suoi tempi, questo complesso del tempio era il pi\u00f9 grande in Egitto. Il tempio copriva un totale di 35 ettari. Tutti i templi costruiti dopo questo non potevano raggiungere le stesse dimensioni; persino il Tempio di Karnak, durante il regno di Amenhotep, era pi\u00f9 piccolo.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Sfortunatamente, questo enorme tempio \u00e8 stato drammaticamente distrutto per una serie di motivi. Poco dopo la sua costruzione fu distrutto da un terremoto intorno al 1200 aC, che lasci\u00f2 solo i 2 enormi colossi all’ingresso ancora in piedi. Questi furono ulteriormente distrutti da un terremoto nel 27 aC, dopo di che furono in parte ricostruiti dalle autorit\u00e0 romane.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Gli studi scientifici hanno mostrato che il complesso consisteva di tre piloni, ciascuno fronteggiato da statue colossali. In fondo a questo tempio rettangolare c’era una corte peristilio circondata da colonne. Al giorno d’oggi, ci sono quattro delle statue sono state ri-erette, con 8 in attesa di essere ri-eretto. Il Museo di Luxor ospita circa 200 statue che sono state trovate in questo tempio.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Queste statue gemelle raffigurano Amenhotep III in posizione seduta. Due figure pi\u00f9 corte sono scolpite sul trono davanti alle sue gambe per la moglie Tiye e la madre Mutemwiya. I pannelli laterali raffigurano il dio del Nilo Hapy.<\/p><\/amp-fit-text>\n\n\n\n

Le statue sono costituite da blocchi di arenaria quarzite che sono stati estratti a el-Gabal el-Ahmar e trasportati via terra per 675 km a Luxor. Dopo il 27 \u00b0 terremoto, gli ingegneri romani ricostruirono il colosso settentrionale. Si ritiene che abbiano usato blocchi che potrebbero provenire da Edfu. I colossi raggiungono un’altezza di 18 metri e pesano circa 720 tonnellate ciascuno. Nel caso, includeremo le piattaforme di pietra su cui stanno.
