Het belangrijkste verschil tussen Karnak en de meeste andere tempels en locaties in Egypte is de tijd waarin het werd gebouwd en ontwikkeld. Het duurde lang om tot zijn definitieve vorm te komen. Hier hebben we het niet over \u00e9\u00e9n tempel; maar een complex van tempels. Als een oude Egyptische tempel begon de bouw in het Middenrijk en ging door tot de Ptoleme\u00efsche tijd. Bijna alle heersers van het oude Egypte hebben hun sporen achtergelaten in dit enorme en enorme complex. Het is ongeveer dertig farao’s die hebben bijgedragen aan de gebouwen. Deze procesconstructie en renovatie heeft geleid tot een omvang, complexiteit en diversiteit die nergens anders te zien is. Het is echt het grootste religieuze gebouw ooit gemaakt, met een oppervlakte van ongeveer 200 hectare, en was een bedevaartsoord voor bijna 2000 jaar.<\/amp-fit-text><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het Karnak-tempelscomplex herbergt een aantal tempels, kapellen, pylonen en andere gebouwen. De bouw in het complex begon tijdens het bewind van Senusret I in het Middenrijk en ging door tot de Ptoleme\u00efsche periode. Hoewel, als we de plaats van dichtbij bekijken, kunnen we vaststellen dat de meeste gebouwen dateren uit het Nieuwe Koninkrijk.<\/amp-fit-text><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit complex is een uitgestrekte open plek en bestaat uit vier hoofddelen: de grote tempel van Amon, het gebied van Mut, het gebied van Montu en de ontmantelde tempel van Amenhotep IV. Er zijn ook een paar kleinere tempels en heiligdommen die het Precinct of Mut, het Precinct of Amun-Re en de Luxor-tempel verbinden.<\/amp-fit-text><\/p>\n\n\n\n
